Awesome! I went out Friday as well. First trip with my bay boat past the jetty's. I was solo so basically happy to make it out and back alive. I did a little trolling both with my big motor and also with the trolling motor. Not a single king fish was seen. I did have a smack take a ribbon fish and also a blue runner that grabbed the same ribbon fish rig.

You seem to kill the ling every year so my question is, whats your best/favorite bait to soak or pitch to ling?

Actually my favorite lure is a 6 inch swimbait in mullet color.....as for livebait I would say a blue runner. But I have caught them on mullet, hardheads, atlantic bumpers, barjacks, sandtrout, and threadfin shad.....they have just never been picky for me. A big topwater lure is fun also.

Thanks for the info! It looks like the gulf is going to lay down again Friday and maybe into Saturday. I'm leaning hard toward trying again this Friday.

I wonder how a large whopper plopper would work out there??? I follow Glenn Madden's (Prof Salt) youtube channel and he had a video that featured top water lures for kings. Pretty entertaining watching those kings go air born!

The ling are not as aggressive as a king, tuna poppers are probably going to work better than a fast whopper plopper.....I have caught quite a few on magnum long A jerk baits made by bomber......rip it passed them and they will eat it for sure...
