Topwater Red

Caught this guy in the middle of the day with overcast skies. Nothing like topwater bite!

I love the random middle of the day topwater bite. We usually pull up on an island somewhere for lunch, and stop to eat. Since I am normally done eating first, or even while eating, I will mess around by tossing a topwater out. There have been many days that I found a bite for out boat, by eating lunch! Some days we parlay that into the remainder of our limit at noon on topwaters.

Nice fish. Gotta love how versatile a topwater is. Please change that back hook or at least file off some of the rust or not, but it will mean missed fish if you don’t.

Thanks for that tip. First chance I've had to fish in a while and I raced out the door without taking a closer look at my gear. You're right though, it could mean losing some fish. Appreciate the advice.

they are days where you can catch top water fish all day.. I have done it in fall and spring.
The overcast helps the fish to look up at bait on top of water. Remember this.. The way I find out if fish are active.. Threw a top water first cast on all trips.. After fifteen minutes of top water fishing,, no luck or you get a lot of blow ups and no hook ups the fish are not active an or don't want it... then got down with plastics or clicker cork. Fish slow and it will happened. I have test the water for many years.. I have caught some of the biggest trout and reds in middle of summer at high noon on top water lures. It's not a morning or evening lure.. it will work anytime the fish or feeding.. even under lights at night.
