super clear surf

conventional wisdom dictates 4-5' visibility is too clear to effectively catch trout but who can resist hanging in the beautiful water. yesterday was the clearest water i'd seen in Galv. in several years. fished sunup til 9:30 on the west end. tons of dinks but managed a few to 21" on ss jr and mirrOminnow.

friday got invited to jump aboard a 28' world cat and ran 50 miles out of Matty. 200' of water. 1st time offshore in about 8yrs. beautiful day but the fish slept in. a few sharks and a bonito was about it. no weedlines and not much water movement. still beat the h*ll ouuta workin'

The surf was super clear in POC yesterday also.
I ran out to the pass with my nephew and his family. We got there about 10:30 . I fished until about noon.
Really clear water so I did not have much hope but caught an 18 in and a 21 in. Pretty quick then about a five foot shark hung around for a while so I hoisted the fish out of the water and waited for him to leave then caught one more 18 in. Then nothing but it was great to fish such beautiful water and catch trout.
I am send my guests home with a nice bag of fresh fillets and my nephew, his wife and two kids had a blast playing in the water that looked like it could be in the Caribbean.

Bryan/Quintana beach wasn’t nearly as clear yesterday morning. Very sandy in close early, improved and streaky as the sun came up. Water visibility might have topped out at 1.5’ or 2’ in a few spots.

Brought 10 Louisiana keeper specks to hand, plus 4 sand trout. One speck that went just shy of 16” I kept, lost another somewhat better than that and a couple of borderline fish I didn’t measure.

Surf there was full of small shrimp, trout that I did get were going after the shrimp hard.

Ya we found good fish under birds chasing shrimp farther south. One fish I kept had the antennae sticking out of it’s throat!
