Five Star Marine tilt and trim rebuild
My tilt/trim seals are leaking. Has anyone had their unit rebuilt by Five Star out of Florida? If so, what was your experience? Thanks in advance.

Ours started leaking on our skiff about 4 months ago so I pulled it and shipped it off to them. Communication wasn't great, but turnaround time was pretty quick (I think about a week if I remember correctly). They did hit us with some "extra" charges that they did not ask us about before completing. Just know that they are likely going to replace your pump motor even if it's working when you send because they won't warranty it without a new pump. It still ended up being about half the cost of a completely new unit.
Keep in mind that if your boat is used in saltwater, getting the unit off and ready to ship could be more work than you think. I had to cut some of the pins that were holding my unit in on my 60 etec because they were corroded/siezed. Bought replacement pins and bushing off ebay. Some local outboard shops can rebuilt the units by only partially removing the trim units. |

I just had mine done a few months ago and don’t really have much to complain about. They contacted me once they got it torn apart and told me what they would need to replace. Mine is off a 1997 Yamaha 80 HP and they did not replace the pump. I think I paid close to $600 after it was all said and done if I remember right. Ditto on a lot of work to get it off, I could not free the motor mount until I got it back so I had I had to pull the pump off the unit to pull it out the bottom. Definitely looks like quality work and can’t beat the warranty.

Had mine done 3 years ago. No complaints and alot cheaper than a new one.

Just had one done. Speedy turnaround, and looks like quality work. Cost was as advertised.

They are fast and do a great job, but communication is meh.
common complaint is they will always change the pump motor even if its not requested. So be ready for that extra $. Honestly its for the best if any water has gotten into your fluid. |
