Kill switch requirement
Is there a grandfather clause in the new kill switch regulation? I have a 1968 boat with a 1983 outboard (35HP) that does not have a kill switch. It does have a push button on the front to kill the motor, but it is a push and hold button. So I don't have a leash to kill power if the operator is thrown from the vessel. Is there a kit to upgrade the push button to a kill switch/leash arrangement?

Here is what I have been told so far.
[quote author=laddh] It is a good idea to install one but there is a grandfather clause.- The new law does not require the retrofitting of older vessels that are not equipped with a kill switch.. It does not permit the removal of a kill switch device that was originally installed on the vessel. Wireless kill switch devices are permitted for those with concerns about the lanyard style devices. yes, there are a couple different ways to incorporate a safety kill switch and tether to that engine. I will have to see if I have a kit available. Call if interested, I will check on a kit . Ronnie Red Wing Boat Co. 713-921-0656

If you are referring to my quote about the grandfather clause it was from TPWD.
