repair a broken outboard skeg
Any body know a aluminum welder around Kemah area that can replace and re-weld a lower unit skeg for Yamaha 250. Like half of it is broken off.

Baumann Marine Service is another good resource. They did a great job welding mine up.

Baumann did mine too - I removed it from the engine, dropped it off, and one day later they had it done.

The last time I had a broken skeg, I put a skegguard on it and never looked back.

Ditto on the Skeggard. Put one on my Yamaha when boat came off the trailer on 288 a few years back...........that's the day I promised myself and the Good Lord I'd never pull another boat without transom straps..........but that's a whole other thread!!

Baumann Marine, they repaired the skeg on our SHO last year after knocking over half of it off getting to a duck blind. If you go to there website, they have several drop off locations (Marine Shops) posted that will take care of you. All you need to do is drop your Gear Case and bring it in, its scary how easy it is to remove it off the motor. A skeg guard is just a bandaid, plus you wont have to drill two 1/4" holes in your case.

The skegguard is a band aid and the next time you hit something that hard stainless steel will not give. It will tear all of your soft aluminum skeg off and possibly some of your case. Better to weld a new aluminum so you have some give and can break it again. It is a fuse. Make it solid with a skegguard and you have no more room for error. And fewer options when repair time comes. Additionally it can tear off so much of the skeg/gear case that your next repair instead of being a $150 skeg weld job it could require an all new gear case....just because it ripped off all the aluminum....
