New engine size for Polarkraft 1648
Wondering what any owners of this boat gave for power, and their thoughts. I have a 1994 boat with a 1994 25hp Mercury 2 stroke, and it is terribly underpowered. Sticker says I could put a 60 on it, which seems insane. I was thinking in the 40 to 50 hp range 4 stroke, but I want to make sure I don’t have a weight issue, or a porpoise.
What do you all recommend? |

Tiller/Steering whell? Go with max hp rating. Stick with a 2 stroke for that size...lighter and more reliable.

On a 1648, I would think that engine weight would be a critical factor to consider. IIRC, those 3 cylinder 2 stroke Mercs weigh over 200 pounds. Four stokes would weigh more. You might want to check out an Evinrude 48 Special. It is a 2 cylinder, 2 stroke. I don't know when they quit making these but it would be a good starting point. I think they were made in the late 90's. There might be a more modern equivalent.
