I bought the voodoo mullet and shrimp. They look awesome and move like real bait in the water, but I haven’t got the first hit on either. Gulp, SWA, DSL and gold spoons have all caught fish in the same locations for me 🏻

First of all, I like those baits for fishing the lights on the pier, but wouldn't take them wading.

This is just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth.

First, the bait is not a long distance caster. The more flexible an object, the less aerodynamic it is. This segmented design will not fly very far. In the surf, with the wind usually in your face, that will greatly limit the water you're able to cover.

Second, there are many mullet imitation baits more time tested for durability and effectiveness, starting with Mirrolure MR51 series plugs or, the more updated Catch 2000 baits (one less treble hook). Their action is very effective and has been used effectively in the surf for decades

Third, durability is pretty key in the surf where a good sized Spanish mackerel can destroy a bait with one swipe. I won't take a Corky or anything valuable into the surf; not even soft plastics unless they are cheapies, during the summer when the Smacks are prevalent. I've lost too many baits.
