Zeroed at 50yds, how far will it go????

Yesterday I zerod my 270win at 50yds. How far will it go before I have to compensate for projectile drop? It's a Savage Axis 270 win, with a Sig Sauer Sierra 3BDX mounted on top. Thanks.

Makes no difference what the rifle is. You need to know what bullet you are shooting and what the muzzle velocity is. If you don’t have a chronograph, the published velocity should be close enough for normal hunting distances.

Depends on your load and how big of a target you want to hit. If you're trying to hit a 1" circle you start compensating much closer than hitting a 4" circle. For example I shoot a 7mm STW sighted in at 225 yds so I can hit a pie plate out to almost 350 yds withe no hold-over with 140 gr Accubonds.

You might want to re-sight in for zero at 200 yards...less math equals fewer misses!

Thank you for your feedback. The round is a Win Super X Power Point 150 grain, with a muzzle velocity of 2100fps. I guess the real question is, will it still be on target at 300yds?

I understand. That's why I bought a Sig Sauer BDX combo. The range finder, scope, and phone app is suppose to do the math and then make the adjustments on the scope. I aimed at 300yds, but no adjustments were made. It was getting dark so I didn't take the shot. I really didn't feel like looking for it had I made a bad shot. The circle in questions is 4".

2100 fps isn’t right. With that load you should be in the 2600-2700 fps range.

Sight in 1.5” high at 100 yards and hold directly on anything up to 250 yards.
As is...Dead on at 50 yds will also be dead on at 100 yds, and about 4” low at 200 yd and 16” low at 300 yds.

My fault. On the box, it says muzzle velocity is 2850, [email protected]

2850 fps muzzle will be with a 24” barrel. You’re likely 2750-2800 fps. So a little less drop than I stated above (more like 14” at 300 yds).
