Lake Fayetteville

I am usually hunting this time of year but had a free day a couple weeks ago and decided to fish Fayette.

I can catch a lot of fish in Fayetteville in the heat of the summer but they skunked me this trip.

Where are they this time of year and how do you catch them?

I tried jigging spoons in deep water and my normal crank baits in 8 to 15'.

Nothing.

the water has been screwed up on Fayette due to some sort of algae bloom. Typically this time of year I'll throw shad colored crankbaits in the backs of creeks and also against the dam.

Thanks. When do you think it will get back to normal?

sorry just saw this...not really sure. You may check on the Texas fishing forum as there's a lot more people who fish fresh water there who can likely tell you.

A friend down the street is an expert on Fayett. He went for the Thanksgiving weekend. He caught a few fish but stated its way off what it should be. He stated the water temp is not right. He thinks the power plant is not generating like it should. Water temps were diff than they should be.

Your right, went the day after Thanksgiving, 1st time back in many years and was expecting 90+ degree water at the discharge and it was 65 Degrees. We worked hard for 5 fish, and wind blew so it was shoreline action only.

Something is definitely off. I went recently and had a horrible trip. Water temps were mid 60's which is usually about as low as they ever get and it hasn't been that cold. Saw very very little shad on my depth finders looking in a handful of my common go to spots. And my depth finder clarity was not as clear as normal. That lake is never as clear on the screen as say Toledo or Rayburn, but it was worse than normal. And I have see some pictures recently of a decent size fish kill about 6 weeks ago. I usually catch pretty good in December, but something is going on.
