I have had good luck with Kahl hooks on free foating jugs but best I have used are
3/0 Mustad stainless long shank circle streamers. They have to be ordered online and are not cheap.

Hooks

I fish Lakes Houston and Conroe a lot and I use 5/0 Eagle Claw circle offset on flagging jugs. I think they're p/n 197L. When baiting I occasionally find a hook getting dull by the amount of force required to push it through whatever bait I'm using. When I find one of those I trash the hook and replace it with a new one. I tried sharpening the old hooks a few times but I could not get it as good as a new hook. I think some times missed hook ups may be due to dull hooks.

I live on the NW side of Houston. I can be at LH/1960 in about 30 minutes so I'm there more often except LH has been so muddy lately. Yea, more than normal! That's why I've been up on Conroe more lately. I also was out of commission for most of the last 4 1/2 months with a broken heel and ankle. Just now starting to get back out.
The attached photo is of a 15 lb. blue right before Christmas out of Conroe.

Hooks

Next time I head out to LH I'll give you a shout, Mudbug59. There's a guy named Weatherman on another forum that's still doing good on LH even with all of the muddy conditions and current so it can be done.
