Mercury Lower Unit

Will a lower unit from a 2001 Mercury 150 interchange with a 1997 Mariner Magnum 200 EFI?

I believe it would bolt up but the gearing might be different.

Yes, it will work, as mentioned above the gear ratio is different so you will more pitch on the propeller. 150’s have a 2:1 gear ratio and the 200 has a 1:87 gear ratio.

Ok. Thanks. Mystery solved. I was just wondering because I kept the lower unit from a previous blown motor and didnt know if I should hang on to it or sell it. I guess if the ratio is different, I don't see much use in hanging on to it. Thanks again for the advice.

It's nothing a prop can't handle and if installing the lower unit from the 150 to the 200 you will be gearing down so no worries about lugging the motor.

Well, in that case I might just hold on to it for an emergency backup. Thanks for the replies!
