Cleaning off water stains

We just spent 5 days in POC and left the boat in the water the whole time. That water left a brown stain below the waterline that turned out to be pretty stubborn. I got it about 95% cleaned off with some Meguire's one step compound. What do y'all use in cases like this to clean it off? And, is there a good wax that will help prevent it when we go down there next time?

I would not waste money on starbrite .... go to the dollar store and load up on the works shower and tile cleaner and get a cheap spray bottle. It will take the heavy stains right off just wash you trailer down good afterwards.

Also, I would highly recommend you wax/polish after using a hull cleaner as it will remove it.

Never had much luck with StarBrite, HullBright, etc.

They will work to some degree, but still had to scrub and work on it. To time consuming, it's not laziness, but after being up on 18 to 24 hour trips, I'm ready to just get the job done, right, and quick lol

As others mentioned, bowl cleaner or other cleaning products with Oxalic acid in them will do a good job as well.

However, the areas I go and the length of time on the water, especially after rains and storms send all that mess down steam, allot of times the entire bottom will be brown after a single trip, and being able to spray and rinse large areas fast is really nice.

Had a guy a few weeks ago at the boat storage pull up with an old bay rig that hadn't been "white" in years.

I was washing mine down and when done asked if he wanted to try something, he kind of shrugged "I gave up trying to clean this brown [email protected] off, I just rinse it, make sure the salt is off, and done"

Handed him the bottle, he sprayed an area to test and immediately it turned white again, 15 min later he ended up backing in the stall with a white boat again and smiling.

I'm sure it's not the end all magic potion for every stain, but I do know it gets rid of waterline and brown water stains with just spraying it on and rinsing.

If you don't want to mix it yourself, or just want to try it and see, you can get it ready to go in a spray bottle for under $4 at Home Depot / Lowe's, Ace Hardware, etc
