Online Auto Parts

For some reason instead of just following my impulse and head to my local O'Reilly Auto Parts (aka Hi-Lo) I looked online to see what a 4 wheel brake job would be costing me for my son's 4dr sedan. I got to looking and you get a 15% discount on brake parts for ordering online and going to the store to pick up. Interesting I thought. So I browse over to the Advanced Auto Parts web site and find a 20% code. At the end of all the shopping and comparing, I saved $60 over just walking up to the counter.

Now I am an old school Parts counter guy. Way before the Internet was a thing. I am just puzzled why they would take a 20% hit just for me to place an order 'on-line'. At the end of the day the overhead is the same. Plus there is no opportunity for the upsell.

And most of the time it ships free from Houston. I got brake calipers for my hunting truck online, free shipping, saved 20% and they shipped from Houston; got it in 2 days. I returned the core to my local store.

Retail brick and mortars have been taking worse than a 20% beating from the likes of Amazon for some time now. This way, they at least get to keep 80% of your money, plus you can get it today & they can still up-sell you when you go to pick it up.

Win-Win

I tried Rock Auto once.
They shipped the wrong part two different times and then made me pay return shipping.
Never again.

I agree with you. I don't see the appeal of a web site from the 90's, cheesy TV commercials and no free shipping. I'll pass.

They shipped me a used part and then when I needed to return a part that was incorrect
they wouldn't accept it.

I don't know, I just have to stand at the counter and actually have that part in my hand before I buy it.

I use rock auto - after dealing with dummasses at brick and mortar - I buy parts by brand - AC delco, Holley , Msd etc. Jegs has a ton too. My 2019 f250 6.7 has very expensive filters and I shop around for price. I’ve been screwed / disappointed by stores too many times.

I've been using Rock Auto for years and never had a problem.
Amazon has been good too, but won't have everything Rock will have.

My truck is held together by Rock Auto. Never an issue, and wayyy cheaper.

And I work part time at Vatozone!
