East Beach catfish farm

My brother and his buddy fished the surf at East beach this morning and the conditions looked really good. My brother and his buddy caught about 20 catfish and 1 baby shark. They were fishing with live shrimp under a popping cork and also tried the bottom. Obviously no pictures were taken. lol

We took the boat offshore last weekend and saw big groups of birds working just outside of the pass. Looked to be Spanish mackerel so we decided to troll some spoons and rattle traps. Hooked up immediately. After the 4th or 5th gafftop we decided to head elsewhere. They were thick in there, and would hit anything.

All joking aside, I've never eaten a gafftop but one of these days I will. I always say when I go fishing if all I catch is gafftop is, well if I wanted fish for dinner I certainly could have had some. LOL

I saw a guy at a bait shop filleting gafftop one day, they looked like freshwater catfish or tilapia. Great looking fillets. I tried it once....made a blob of mush and slime.

Apparently I didn't do it right.
