Pileated Woodpecker

Pileated Woodpecker

(Dryocopus pileatus)

Square hole digger
oblong actually
on the dead and dying

Deep wood trademark
along with your rat-a-tat
and well known call

I saw you today
out in the open
searching that oak

My heart stopped
when you called and flew
entrancing in flight

Bright eyed one, black, white, and red
Was that a wink
I saw

note: photo of the bird is a stock photo (He never lets me get close enough to get a good one.) The tree is mine, as are the words.

Ah friend, photography and poetry... my favourite kind of art.

I love your poem... and I think your photo is great. I'm deciding whether I like the focus as the background or whether it should be brought forward onto the dead tree. *thinking* It would be quite 'standard' to have the focus on the dead tree I think. Yours adds another dimension - there are other trees that the woodpecker might one day come back to.

I'm glad you've got your photo posting ability sorted. I can't wait to see more of the world through your eyes.

Well, I promised you that I would show you the tree since we discussed woodpecker drilling holes. ~ The focus of the picture is really determined by my cheap camera. For some reason it decides what it wants to be in main focus.
