Question about Tarpon Rodeo in Grand Isle

So my family booked our annual vacation, this years destination is Grand Isle. Little did we know we booked during the Tarpon Rodeo. We are traveling from Houston area. My question is... is it worth dragging a boat the 8 hour drive during the rodeo or will the marinas be too packed to launch? Not entering the rodeo and don’t want to wait in line to launch for extended period of time. For those of you that have been during the rodeo, does it get that packed/crazy? Have heard it’s basically Mardi Gras 2.0...Thanks for any advice!

We ended up down there during the Tarpon rodeo one year and fishing wise wasn’t bad at all offshore. One hard lesson learned if your gonna be down there during it go ahead and enter the tournament, we ended up catching two yellowfin that would have took 1st and 2nd in the tournament and we weren’t entered and still regret it.

It will be crazy crowded. Main drag across the island will be a coon *** logjam. It is a hell of a good time though. If you are staying on the water definitely leave your boat in the water.

You say annual vacation, surely you don't mean first annual because the one warning I received about booking a trip to Grand Isle is to avoid the tarpon round up if you're trying to avoid crowds. I would say if the room is already booked go ahead and go, unless you really hate crowds.
