Fishing before the storm

Since I finally have a chance to go fishing I plan on leaving work by noon tomorrow and heading down to Sargent for the afternoon/evening to fish the surf. I’ve never been to that area before, any pointers/suggestions?

If you have a 4x4, go west about a mile past Lil' Stubby and fish with cut mullet. Bring a cast net, the mullet are about 10' from the beach feeding on the algae growing on the clay. Cast your line into the second gut, that's where the reds have been feeding. It's a falling tide all day, but the strongest movement will be between 2pm and 6pm. When the tide falls, the mullet will leave the clay and head to deeper water and the reds will be waiting for them.

I won't be there this weekend because I have a BBQ cook off, but if you come on a weekend I'm there I can show you how it's done. It starts with having the right gear and knowing how to use it. After that you just open the lid to your ice chest and the fish jump right in.

Well it turned into a pretty good day (for me anyways). Caught a small black drum, a sheepshead, some hard heads and 5 sharks. My dad and nephew ended up tagging along and my nephew was all excited to catch his first shark.
