Transmission Temp.
What's the range a Transmission should run at?
Truck is a 2007 Silverado crew cab. I just picked up a tractor and boat so I want to make sure my trans is running as it should while hauling these loads. I been putting off having a filter and fluid changed for sometime now. 140,000 miles. Never touched the fluid or filter. |

I'm guessin half ton? How big is the tractor and boat?
Pullin 15k or more with either of my trucks I will see above 200 degrees In the summer in traffic. At highway speeds you'll be fine. Both of mine are 3/4 Tons. One is an 01' gas job, other is 13' Duramax. |

My 2013 F150 runs at between 190 and 195 towing 6000lbs on the highway. Around 200 in town with the extra shifting.

Start paying attention at about 210 degrees, above that I'm slowing down or stopping to allow trans fluid to cool. If you are consistantly bumping that 210 threshold, regular trans fluid changes and an auxilary trans cooler need to be concidered.

2008 gmc serria 4X4. w/ towing package.
Towing ~4000-5000 lbs in the hill country trans temp hits low 200's. every now and then it will hit 210. |

^^This^^ Heat is the #1 auto trans killer. An aux cooler is cheap insurance if you tow, especially in hills/mountains. Also, only tow in OD on flat ground and not too heavily loaded. Better to downshift and burn the extra gas than burn up the trans!

Should run around Coolant temperature since it runs through the radiator. I run a cooler with a small electric cooling fan.
