elect. brake controller

I have a 2014 Dodge 1500 that is prewired for an activator. I checked with my dealership this morning to price the "plug-on" activator and found it to cost $244 plus labor. The last time I checked, a Draw-Tite brake activator was $50. Is there any reason besides price I should consider one over the other?

Nope the plug in ones work just fine.

Used one on a f250 for years pulling a skidsteer trailer. Worked great.

My new 250 is built in. Only bad part is if it goes south I can't unplug and buy a new one.

I did a bunch of research on the net about how the prewired system could easily be compromised by an unprofessional actuator instillation. In an effort to do right by my family and new truck and trailer, I had the dealer make the install. I should not have been surprised by the total of $519 but it took me off guard considering the last one was $50 installed by me. Hope it last as long as it needs to. Thanks for the input, Gary
