The best "keep in offshore shape" workout

Since our winds blow most of the time and good offshore opportunities are limited, I have been paddling different areas of the bay after work just to stay in shape. The workouts ensure that I sleep well, and when the weather finally smiles, I can make the most of those offshore paddling days. Lately I have been practicing a technique crafted by the South African and Australian folks called Downwind Paddling. It's basically the art of catching wind driven swells to surf them on the kayak ...and it's really a hoot! Next time you're discouraged because of high winds and thinking that paddling is out of the question, this might be the answer you're looking for.

Thanks, I've seen 12.5 mph according to gps, but that day I wasn't running the unit to see the speed, just having some fun. Even 8 mph get me up on plane, and 10 or more makes me smile every time!
