Spinning reel bail fix

Sometimes after.cleaning and lubing the bail on a spinning reel, it still does not work as well as it should. Seems obvious, but often the bail wire gets bent and looks ok when in place but when you undo one side it is evident that it needs to be bent back into shape and then reattached. I have seen it where the bail shoots out a couple inches when you remove the screw, but even 1/4 inch can put it in enough of a bind to cause it not to work well. I have attached a couple pics from a reel I was recently working on showing before and after. Hope this helps somebody.

I have a Shimano spinning reel that when casting, flipping bail (auto or manual) and line does not want to hit the right spot to retrieve (line pick up). I have to look down and move the line over. The cause could be as you described. Is the fix, just bend the bail, how, which way? Downward, upward, etc?
