Towing with Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I want to use to tow a boat weighting 3000 lbs. The car is a 6 cylinder 2 wheel drive and is rated at 4300 towing capacity by Jeep. Anyone have any experience in tow with this vehicle?

My wife and I have two 2015 BMW x5s. Very similar to size and capability to the JGC as that was my second choice as a dedicated boat towing vehicle as i am a full time guide. Yes it will handle it fine. Horse trailer with two forses is over 7k pounds. My bay boat is abpit 6400 pounds. Buddies offshore boat is 7500 pounds.

I get rid of my chevy 3/4 ton. That BMW pulls, stops and handles, anything up to about 7500 pounds better than that truck ever thought about.

Im betting you will have similar experience with the similar dimensions JGC. Let us know....

Thanks for the info Sgrem, you are braver than me. I would have never guessed a BMW X5 could pull that large a boat

I had a 1999 Jeep Gran Cherokee that I pulled a 25’ Hi Lo Camper with....it pulled great but in hard crosswinds or sometime when a large 18 wheeler woukd go by, anything above 55 mph it seemed to want to start swaying. I never felt real secure....kinda like the tail was wagging the dog.

Wife drives a ‘15 v6 2wd JGC as well. I have not put a hitch on it, but I’ve wondered how it would do pulling my 20’ bay boat.
