Jalapeño-Tomatillo Ranch Dip

Some years ago I post a recipe for Jalapeño Dip which was well received on 2Cool. This one is similar, but we like it better.

Jalapeño-Tomatillo Ranch Dip

Blend -

3 or more garlic cloves
1 bunch cilantro (sorry Haute!)
1 large or 2 small tomatillos
1 envelope (1 oz.) ranch dip mix
2 cups mayo
1-2 fresh whole jalapeños (deseeded for mild)
Juice of 1 small lime
Buttermilk to this to desired consistance

Enjoy!

your recipe looks very similar to mine

Tuff’s Almost Famous CreamyJalapeno Concoction

Ingredients
1 quart mayonnaise

1 cup buttermilk
1 cup chopped jalapeno
1 cup green tomatillo sauce
1/2 bunch cilantro, chopped
3 (1 ounce) packets dry ranch dressing mix
Directions
1 Mix first 5 ingredients in a blender until smooth.
2 Stir in ranch mix with a whisk.
3 Chill and serve. (at least overnight)

Finding plain tomatillo sauce can be difficult, I have usedwhole canned tomatillos and also prepared sauce. The “heat” varies depending onwhat else has been added to the sauce. I won’t use any that have tomatoes.Usually I use a brand that has serranos.

When preparing the jalapenos, you might be tempted to removethe veins and seeds-I did once, and there was absolutely zero jalapeno flavor.Be mindful that the recipe calls for 1 cup of choppedpeppers-that is quite a few jalapenos.

Experience has also taught me to spend the extra money andbuy Hidden Valley Ranch brand dressing mix. The Hill Country Fare and Wal-Martvarieties just don’t have the flavor. Hidden Valley sells different formulas ofthe mix. I usually use the regular, but the spicy is good too. Stay away fromthe fiesta. (Make sure it is salad dressing and not DIP)

Being a lazy bachelor, I mix everything in theblender-I don’t whisk anything. This recipe will fill the blender to the top.Half the time I forget to add the cilantro.

(this is a pretty old recipe - I'm no longer a bachelor)

I highly advise making your own homemade ranch. It's night and day compared to the packaged product. Thousands of recipes online. I use this and sorry for no measurements as I've been making it for so long I just eyeball everything. On second thought I'll attempt:

1 Cup Mayo (DUKES)
1/2 Cup Sour Cream (NOT LIGHT)
1/2 Cup Low Fat Buttermilk
1 TSP Dried Onion Flake
1 TSP Dried Powdered Onion
1 TSP Garlic Powder
3 TBL Chopped Parsley
1/2 TSP Salt
1/2 TSP Black Pepper
Fresh Dill to taste
1 drop of Worcestershire
