Throwing big lures inshore, surf, jetty, pier (Lucky Craft LL pointer or Sebile)

Who here throws big lures inshore, either in the surf, jetty, or off the piers?

Since my time is limited going down to the gulf I would like to know what people's experiences are with the big plugs like the Lucky Craft jointed LL pointer 170, which I think is about 7 inches and 2 oz or the big Sebile Magic Swimmers. I picked up a few but I really never hear of people on the gulf using them.

Do big reds, specks, and macks go for big lures or is this all just a waste of times and money?
