How to catch catfish

What kind of structure are y'all looking for catfishing?

I don't catfish much, cause usually i don't do too well. The weird thing is, I just use shrimp from Walmart and go to a pond in the area on the bank, and catch a good deal of channels.. However, I've yet to catch one on the boat. I put it in ponds I know have catfish cause I've caught them on crankbaits by accident, but when i actually target catfish at night i don't get a **** bite. I have a bottom machine/graph on the boat and usually toss an anchor over in about 15-20ft of water thinking they are deep. I'm guessing I'm just not fishing the right structure or depth. Cause when I do catch them, it's always on shrimp. I caught my biggest catfish (30lb blue) on shrimp sitting on the bank at a pond. What do I need to look for on the boat?

Shrimp is ok and all those stink baits, but you might try cast netting the waters you’re fishing and find out what they are actually eating. Works best for me! Usually shad, carp, or mullet. I prefer cut bait but live works well to. Deep drop offs, steep banks, dams, outsides of river bends or just search for under water brush piles. Good luck!

Channels like timber. Depths will vary but shrimp and shad are always in favor. I sink a 2 gallon bucket of cattle cubes with left over bacon grease. Lots of other chum options.

Tight lines!
