That is a great thread on lights. Has anyone tried to combine that style with the gig? Wonder what the problems would be.

I was going to work on a combo light / gig but never got around to it.
I think it is possible although when I mentioned it to Smack he thought I was joking and it was probably just me thinking out-loud` and more trouble than it would be worth. I have a few other ideas I may work on sometime but an led light hooked to the end of a piece of pvc and wired to a portable battery is about as simple as it gets. It is not difficult or expensive to do that. Don't overthink it. Looking pretty does not help catch flounder. |

If the tines on your gig are 6" long, and then you completely submerge the light, you would have a problem in very shallow water. When the light comes out of the water you lose pretty much all light value. You wouldn't want to be dragging the tines of the gig all night. So you would just about be looking at a foot of water, to be comfortable. Also, if the light is attached to the gig, then when you raise the gig to stab a fish, your light would come out of the water and you would pretty much lose sight of your flounder. Maybe you've got something in mind that I'm just not seeing, but everything I can think of would make for some functional problems. |

Saw this flounder light at Bass Pro. Looks like he's got a Bass on the line though lol.

I can't see where combining a gig and I light would be beneficial. Maybe scuba diving. Otherwise, just carry both.
