MI Block A-85

Ran out of Port A to A-85 and the artificial reef nearby yesterday. A little sloppier than predicted, started out great and got worse the farther we went but we pushed thru anyway. There is one platform remaining at A-85. If there is a platform at A-111 then it was too far to see.

We trolled around the platform a couple of times pulling a diver, a Yozuri bonito and a surface lure and picked up a couple of kings. Went to the artificial reefs and trolled over them with no takers. Tried some vertical jigging but the waves and current pushed us so fast it made jigging difficult. Went back to the platform and threw some 3oz bucktails at the rig - had a king or big jack crevalle hit every drop. Ended up catching a bunch of kings and more jacks than we had the energy for.

Trip in was rough for about 8 miles then it smoothed out to flat calm before we got in. Good trip overall but still looking for my first Wahoo. Hopefully the full moon in January will be calm enough or February will be good for the Hoos.

So I may be a little confused. For the Mustang Island Area federal blocks, do you abbreviate as MI or MU?

Mustang is MU
Matagorda is MI

this post talks of the rigs off shore from Baker which i think are MU-A111/MU-A85 or A111/A85 in short form.

I meant MU 85 near Baker Rock. Hopefully I can get back out there this winter and hook a hoo. Looks like some were caught last weekend at the Flower Gardens.
