Depends... are you fishing within 9 miles (or a bit beyond) or further out in the GOM?

My understanding is each book is tailored more to a specific offshore range...

I could be mistaken, but several years ago when I looked into it the "Texas Offshore Fishing Guide" contain all the waypoints of the "Texas State Waters and a Bit Beyond"

The state water version was created for those not looking to run long distances

sorry to hijack but posting new topics is broken- Headed out on a potential floater trip Sunday/Monday out of Freeport. Any suggestions on where to catch some hard tails for bait? How about mullet as an alternative?

This was my experience. I have both. If you are fishing out of Galveston the state water book is not that helpful IMO
