Thinking about taking my boat to the San Jacinto River this weekend instead of Clear Lake. The problem is I have no idea where to put in at or where to go once I'm in the water.

Open for any suggestions as well as running advice while in the river. Plan to do a little water skiing and just floating around in the water with the family.

Thanks in advance!

PS. I live in Pearland and close to I-45 and Beltway 8

Love's Marina

Take the Beltway (from Pearland) across I-10 and keep going North. You want to take OLD BEAUMONT HWY 90 East. Once you get on OLD 90..there is a new right before it BTW....heading East, you will go through 4 or 5 lights. Keep going. Cross over a bridge (San Jacinto River) and take the first right after the bridge. The road will take you back West basically under neat the 90 freeway. Anyway follow it down and the Marina will be on your right. Once you get in, use the ramp to the left..the one on the right can be a pain when the tide is out. That should get you there.

There are nice places on the river to play. My favorite is to head North to Newport Beach. once at Love's you would head right up the river under the train tressel. BE AWARE THAT YOU HAVE TO SWING WAY OVER TO YOUR LEFT TO CROSS UNDER THE BRIDGE LIKE THE FOURTH OPENING BETWEEN POLES THE LEFT OF THE BANK. There is a sand bar that has silted in the big opening. Stay in the middle of the river for the most part and you'll be ok. Anyway..heading north up the river, you will go through one long no wake zone, but once past that you can plane off and keep going. Directly you will come to a pretty hard right in the river...keep going. The beach will be a 1/4-1/2 mile further up the river on your right hand side. Nice beach with a long run out of shallow to deep. Good for the kids to swim.

Hope this helps

I always launch at Riverside. Take I-10 East and Exit Monmouth Drive just before Baytown. Head north up the river and stop in at Banana Bend. Go further, and you will be in the area of the previous post. The launch is $5.00 and you can buy drinks, ice, etc. They have a nice bar and the hamburgers are great. The launch has nice docks and there is plenty safe parking. I might be out there this weekend.

Loves Marina is definatlely the ticket. You will be covered up with drunken idiots so be ready for that. Everytime I've taken a rig up there someone drowned.

The last time I ran the river when we got ready to leave we backed the trailer in and I went around to get my boat. When I pulled around there was a little small bass boat lookin speed boat with a loud fast Merc on the back and he parked his nose on the back of my trailer. He wouldn't leave. He kept ignoring me and he looked like he was waiting for someone. Finally I got tired of it and pulled my rig up next to him on the port side and I nicley put my left foot on his gunnel after hollaring HEY real loud. He then had no choice but to look at me. I yelled Are you going to put that little peice of **** on My trailer or are you going to drive the **** thing!! He then jerked it into reverse and it died. I pushed it aside with my foot as he tried to crank it and it started drifting back out. Put my rig on the trailer and pulled up underneath the tree and started getting ready for the trip home. The place was a mess! Definatley a gathering of dumb dumbs!

Thanks for the advice. I think we'll try Riverside. Looking at Google maps the run to Banna Bend seems long. How long does it take to run up there? And can you ski along the way after you pass the big turn towards the right before coming up to Banna Bend?

It's only a 10 minute run to Banana Bend...faster if I'm in the Fountain! I like to ski and wakeboard along the area of Rio Villa. That area is about a mile or so from Banana Bend. Just find a good calm area anywhere in there...its all good water with little or no obstruction.Have fun!
