Took a few days and went to Matagorda West Bay to see if we could catch some Red's and Trout. Used Live/Fresh dead shrimp for bait.
Thursday the 17th, the fishing was extremely slow and tough. We were not successful in finding the fish anywhere until early evening. Around 6pm, the Red's and Flounder were starting to cooperate.
Friday the 18th, the fishing was much better. The sizes were not the best, but we had a great time catching fish. The Red's, Trout, Flounder, and Black Drum were cooperating well. Caught a few keepers to take home, but nothing near a limit. Caught one 27" Red Drum that was a beauty.
Saturday the 19th, was another decent day. Caught a few, but not many keepers. Most luck was late morning and early evening.
The tides are still low and have been for some time. Hoping they will come back up soon. There are some good spots I love that are not accessible right now.

I have loved Matagorda since first hanging a coleman lantern off the boardwalk to the jetty in 1985. I think that was three boardwalks ago. Never fished the bays much.Wish I knew more. Jetty and surf for 20 years. recently aquired a 17 montauk whaler w/ 88 spec Evinrude. Have been 3times in April best I found in all this wind was up the river looking for spiping shad and finger mullet throwing Zara puppies Char and pink/white sleighing those trout and some huge gaftops biggest trout 24 average 17 and released a few at 15 caught one red 26 in hooked in the throat what a battle on light spinning tackle.. Once everyone could walk the dog we had 50-75 blowups each in a hard 8 hours drifting that wind down the banks. We fished all the way to the 521 bridge caught nice trout within sight of it.
