Pretty interesting video.

Thanks for sharing. I know I will definitely get the yeti over the igloo. We just went on vacation and I loaded my 125 with drinks and ice from my neighbor’s ice machine. We were gone from Sunday to Sunday and the ice finally melted on Saturday, the day before we left. Sold

Most of the improvement has been in lid insulation and the way that they seal. Before the days of the high tech coolers duct tape was the big advancement..

We would go on week long camping trips to the Boundary Water Canoe Area. Usually taking 3 coolers. One of the coolers was filled with mostly clean ice and some frozen food, and the seam between the lid and body was double duct taped, We found that just that extra sealing at the seam, gave us and extra day or two. That cooler wasn't opened until the 4 or 5 day. We also stacked one of the other coolers on top of it so that the cold bottom of the upper cooler helped out. There would still be some ice left, but mostly very cold drinking water.
But then, the Canadian Border isn't usually as hot as Texas.

No cans or bottles are allow in the park, so our beer had to be 8 gallon kegs. We would bring 4 of the 8 gallon kegs and sink the full ones in about 15 ft of water with a rope tied to them. The water was still cold enough down there to keep it kinda cool, but not cold. We were roughing it.

I think it's easy to win over Igloo. They are horrible on so many levels! Had they used a Coleman, the differences might not have been so clear. After all, it was a Coleman that won the ice retention test in Florida some years ago. In that, they compared Igloo, Coleman, Yeti and Egret coolers. Like I said, the Coleman won.

Colemans are more expensive than Igloos, but you can still replace 3-4 of them, for the price of one Yeti. I guess it depends on how old you are (LOL!) as to which route you go. But younger people should probably spend the $400 and be done with it.

The benefits of taping the lid shut on coolers other than Egret or Yeti, cannot be overstated, for long term ice retention, IMO.

WOW, you guys are fast! Except I don't think that's the same test. Pretty sure the one I'm talking about, had an Igloo in it. Yeah....after watching, it is not the same. Good idea to tip the coolers over, though.

It all kinda depends on how the ice chest is going to be used:
A day bay fishing trip = Igloo
An off shore fishing trip, maybe a Yeti, maybe an Igloo
A summer time camping trip = Yeti
A trip to the deer lease when its 30 degrees = Igloo

You can buy 2000lb of ice from Buc-ees for the price of a Yeti, but you can't carry 2000lb of ice, in an Igloo (or a Yeti), reasonably.

If you open the lid a lot, the usefulness of the Yeti is diminished.

But, when you want to keep your fish cold, or more likely, beer, for 5 days, Yeti.

Just depends on the intended use.

Spot on.

I have an Engel that holds ice well, but like a Yeti, that sucker is HEAVY filled with ice and drinks. Also, the ice you typically get from a convenience store isn't all that great. I usually throw a small milk jug of ice from my freezer in for good measure.

But the hinges still are the Achilles heel on igloo

Still use the same Igloo 94 quart that came with my boat in 2005. I replaced hinges & snaps with stainless ASAP. I don't think it matters what kind of cooler you have if it is getting opened every 15 minutes. BTW, I make ice blocks in plastic one gallon bleach bottles with the tops cut off at the handle base. I set them out when I get up & in about 15-20 minutes they will break free to put in cooler & fish coffin. Three in cooler & three in fish box will allows me to only purchase two 20# bags of ice for a day trip.

i will say this, i have one of the high end coolers and if u dont prechill it, that bag of ice is gonna turn to water pretty quick. Almost defeats the purpose if u just want to ice down a couple of cases of beer for an afternoon crawfish boil. Usually i just pull out the old trusty igloo. Even when i go fishing its just easier to throw the old igloo in the boat.

Yeah. If you are going g to compare something at least get close. Use a comparable igloo or rtic and you might have something. With Apples vs oranges, yeti is just feasting on the the ones gullible enough to buy it in the first place at double the price. It reminds me of the first etec commercials. They did the boat vs boat challenge but with a standard 4 stoke motor on the others. Of course it outperformed but they would not test it against a mercury optimax which was the same technology bc they couldn’t win. Ahhh...the power of marketing to the uneducated.
