Since I blew my powerhead I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get a new motor for my flats cat. I've narrowed it down to the suzuki and yamaha 4stroke 115's but would like to get some info from anyone that already has one. They both have good warrenty options with the suzi having 7 years and the yammi having 5 but the yammi seems to get a little better fuel millage, although my primary concern is holeshot. I know this has alot to do with the prop but would like to know which seems to have the best low end torque. Any other info would be appreciated.

Take the Yammie

Ive ran 55 to 65 miles on 10 gal. A friend of mine has got a 140 Suzuki and our 115 yammie will outrun it. There is only a 150 pound difference in the boats. I love my Yammie and i think it is the one. It startes better than a car. ROCK SOLID!!!!!

I've been on a Flatscat with the Yammie 115 4-stroke a number of times. As you said the prop may have something to do with it, but the holeshot is not good at all with the 115. The owner wishes he had bought the 150 instead. Again it may be partially the prop, but the FC don't pop out worth a dang, IMO. He wants to replace the 115 with a 150. Now on the other hand he has run that motor 30 weekends a year for 3 years now, I believe, never a problem with the Yammie, starts right up every time.

BO, don't get me wrong the motor has been fantastic. Owner loves the dependabilty and everything else, just the hole shot has been sluggish compared to my experiences which have been with mostly 2 strokes. He's run from Bird Island to the southern end of the 'Cut and up into Baffin into Alazan Bay, up to the JFK area all in one day and still have gas in the tank. Know he'd be interested in a different prop if it would make a difference on speed and/or hole shot. He recken' he'd rather spend for prop instead of a bigger motor if it would help out. Is your Yammie on a Flatscat? If so, then I'd think he'd want to look at the prop. I like the step off and wade-ability of the 'Cat as opposed to vault and wade.

Could you send me any info about the place in Victoria?

I wish I could put one on but I only have the 18'er which is only rated for a 115. That is one defanite plus that the 18' shallow sport has on the 18' flats cat. All that extra power would sure come in handy when powering up over sand. trust me if I could I would but I dont think my insurance company would like it to much.
