I have a friend with a restaurant, after 2 ice machines in 5 years is now renting one. Said they come out and do a monthly maintenance routine, don't remember the price she told me, but it was very reasonable. She also has one at her house and said that they will be renting one for there too next time it breaks down. Something maybe worth looking into.

That’s what I do at work, over the years I bought 2 and still had to maintain. I now pay $175 for a 300lbs/ day machine on a month to month lease and they service it. I don’t need nearly that much but I wanted to make sure that the guys who work for me could fill their ice chests when heading out fishing after work.

I bought a small ice machine about 6 or 8 years ago. Ive had pretty good luck with it. When I left town for a month or so one time, I unplugged it because i didnt know any better. When I plugged it back in, it had a leaky water valve. About 2 years later, I bought another house, so it sat in the garage for 6 months or so before I could get it back on. When I did, the water pump was bad. Its been running for 4 years now.

Not all ice machines are junk.

In my opinion, Manitowoc UDF0140A is great, it has an energy star rating which gives purchasers peace of mind that their need for ice is not a huge drain on energy resources. The model comes with an easy-to-operate glide door that can easily be lifted and slid out. Combined with the convenience of an ice maker, Manitowoc UDF0140A delivers unbeatable performance. This Manitowoc UDF0140A ice machine has a fantastic capacity for producing ice and ice storage facilities. If you're looking for a high-quality machine, this is an upgrade pick. Providing new levels of performance, this machine is worth considering.
As a stainless steel machine, the Manitowoc UDF0140A is one of the new breeds of ice machines that are highly efficient in terms of ice production as well as energy conservation. It saves energy with the delay feature. You can program the Manitowoc UDF0140A to make ice only when you need it. You can use this ice maker when your establishment is closed or if you only need ice for a short period. A convenient feature of the machine is the easy-to-understand indicator icons, which allow you to understand power levels, delay service buttons, and cleaning. Except for the Premium price and large dimensions, it is best.
I forgot to mention don't use GFCI Outlets other reviewers had issues in the manual clearly states not to.
First-year, no major problems, but does cause RF on HF. Whenever the compressor is running, it makes a buzz, so I turn it off on radio night.
