Boat or not? For walking in w/o boat, the surf cant be beat right now cause its flat, but as far as the bays go, go south on the Island and fish the flats across the the road from the Port Royal hotel down to Fish Pass. Plenty of shallow flats and drop offs down through there.

I am not gonna touch the croaker question with a 10 foot pole. I will just say we have a lot of sucess there with topwaters and gold spoons.

2 suggestions:

1. Hit the jetties with live croaker or shrimp. Just use a split shot for weight and freeline them.

2. The Lydia Ann Channel is right out of Port A and is an awesome place to wade when the tide is falling. Get off on the St. Joe Island side and you can see a drop off 20-40 yards from the bank. When the tide is going out, it rips through there. Cast out norton sand eel jr. in black, purple or root beer and chatruese and let it flow with the current. You'll hammer the trout and pick up some reds. Since your from FL, you can also use a DOA shrimp and have similar results.
