I am headed to Rockport for some R&R this weekend. My 5 year old little girl loves to catch snapper. We catch them around the rocks at Palacios but most are pretty small. I would appreciate any info where to start looking in the Rockport or Aransas Pass area.

Thanks Capt. That is the area I had in mind. When we fish for them at Palacios I usually free shrimp live or a piece of fresh dead, or even the tiny gulp shrimp. Same tactics will work there I assume.

There is a breakwater jetty to the Rockport harbor that I used to fish everyonce in a while. Its not the lighted peir, but its further down the street with no lights, and is along the small channel into the harbor.
I don't know if they still allow you go down it or not, but it was a good walk down and if it was rough it was slick.
On a nice day though it was safe and a good spot to catch some small trout and mangroves.

So for Mangrove snapper, could you also target those mid-bay wells? We used to catch small trout off them back in the day and I’d think it’d be a fun break during the in between hours if it’s worth our time

I caught a massive mangrove one trip down near Ingleside on some rocks. I thought I had about a 42 inch red on my trout rod until we got it to surface. Holy Smokes!!!!
