One of my regular crew, Steelersfan, was nice enough to donate a pinfish trap to the cause. I'm going to tie it to the dock in my slip but should I suspend it part way down or put it on the bottom? He says he always catches them on bottom when he gets there early to catch bait so I'm thinking that's the way to go but thought I'd ask in case that's wrong.

I don't think there is a set rule. I hang mine hlafway down. Remember piggies hide a night so you won't catch any until it gets light. The first two and last 2 hours or so of daylight seem to be the best for me as far as filling up the traps fast.

BP-LOL, I only have a couple dozen right now but you are more than welcome to a few. Actually, I have a pretty cool lookin tripletail in the pen right now--bright yellow. I hear you about the weekend, I hope you guys slay them. I'll be back in town Sunday and I'll come see you guys when you get in.


I hang mine in about 5-6 foot of water along the bulkhead--halfway down. Bait with broken in half spanish sardines.
Marburgers has the good traps, the ones at academy SUCK.

BP, help yourself-I'll be leaving town tommorrow afternoon. I have a couple dozen pinfish, several dozen small menhaden (think live chum), and one 12 inch mullet. Help yourself to anything you need (unfortunately most of the pinfish are small)but leave the tripletail alone. The pen is hanging off the side of my dock and there is a dip net right above it. I'll let my wife know you guys will be by.
