Buy something that you won't mind letting go of, We lost 2 spearguns last weekend on BIG AJ's, and honestly letting go of your $800 gun should not be in your thought process.

JBL Gulf Mag XHD and UP would be my recomendation

Thanks...you'll see in another thread...I did the same thing...

JBL Competition's are fine, also A.B. Billers. There is a nice man in Port Aransas that sells them...I sent you a pm before on the info.

Get ready to have fun!!!

You guys should rig up with quick releases on your guns. The obvious reason is so you only lose your spear and cable if you have a green fish you can't handle, but it also could save your life if you get wrapped up or in a bind down there. Last week Goin Deep' and myself were pluckin' AJ's out of the same school and our fish ended up getting tangled. The $1.50 quik release from Lowe's rigged the nite before was the ticket in getting our cables apart underwater.

Aside from that, we had a 3 man limit of reef donkeys and can give some real good tips on dispersing fish after this trip. It was like an underwater UFC with these AJ's. I had one by the throat and was ripping out gills when ole' Mr. Greysuit joined the party. About a 7'-8' Bull but not a positive ID on species. 2nd time to see a shark on the rigs, but still haven't seen one inside the rig legs.

Anyway, sorry to hijack thread. Get a JBL Gulf Magnum XHD from divers emporium. Cheap and ready to shoot outta the box. Wouldn't go any smaller than that or less than 2 5/8" bands.

I agree 100%. Use either a quick release or a "riding rig". Either way can save you 800 bucks and maybe your life. A good person to show you how to set up the quick release would be Mike at Hydrosports in Lake Jackson. He is an extremely experienced spear fisherman and enjoys sharing what he knows.

I'll second and third that!! Be prepared to dump it if you have to. I would much rather throw away $200 bones on another speargun than get drug to 200'. Those AJ's are some bad dudes. We've shot some 50#'s and not had any issue's and this last trip had some 25#'s give us a fit. I personally have a JBL Gulf Magnum XHD and a JBL Woody Magnum and love both of them and would totally recommend them for the $$.

I only use a Mares Pneumatic in the Gulf. Quick loading and very powerful. No worries about bands.
Worked on Dive Boat from Sabine Pass for a long while and once people saw how well the Mare's worked, they soon got rid of band guns and moved to pneumatic. Small gun but more powerful than most band guns that are much larger.

I'm still alive

I'm still alive...after all these years of diving alone....I cannot be replaced, there is only 1 Seahuntress....I am one in 3 million women I do believe...
I'm worth far much more than a Riffe, and they didin't cost that much back then...

Slip,

Do you freedive or Scuba?

I am a big fan of the pneumatics too but the big ones, but I only freedive.

Cheers
