Black stuff on leaves looks like fungus, losing leaves, blooms not near as pretty as last year. Not sure what it is or what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks, Russ

take a branch off your plant and take it to Houston Palm, they will analyz it and tell you what you need.
probably black mold fungus. my suggestion would be to spray it with a fungicide and repeat in a couple of weeks.
Black stuff? Sounds like it could be aphids. You can get a spray/mix at the big box stores that should cover a lot of 'ailments'.

Agree Aphids

Spray retail insecticide containing Isotox, diazinon, malathion. Good choice is Orthene Systemic Insect Control. Double Check labels for use on Crepe Myrtles. Black stuff is 'sooty mold fungus' which grows on the excess sap not digested by the aphids. May want to consider insecticide/fungicide to take care of both. Check out the Ortho Problem Solver book at Big Box.
Its powdery mildew.... get some fungicide and spray them.
i agree w/ aphids. i'd use an insecticide w/ a little bit of dishwashing soap to make it stick to the leaves better. it wouldn't hurt to add a bit of funginex for any bit of mold that may be there. i usually mix the two together in a sprayer. good luck.

Just spray the **** out of it with fungicide, insecticide, herbicide, whatever you got!
It is usually the remnants of aphids. They leave their "ecrements" as I have been told behind in a liquid form and this makes the black fungus. Usually the aphids are gone by the time you realize this. I would treat it with malathian and also a fungicide. The malathian will kill any insects i.e. aphids that might still be there and the fungicide will get rid of the black fungus. Make sure you spray the malathian on the under side of the leaves as this is where the aphids will hang out. Do this now and then possibly again in 2-3 weeks and all should be good.

Ding! ding! we have a winner! Aphids excretion is kinda sweet. Its called honeydew by us. Ants will herd aphids like cattle sometimes. Spill a coke and wait a couple of days. Know that slime it develops? Black sooty mold.....same as aphids.
Yeah!
