Before Hurricane Ike hit, someone attached this object to the pole out in front of our place in Pirates Cove. It was taken down after the storm passed. I'm guessing it was put there to measure wind speeds, or maybe rain or surge or something...anybody know what it is and who put it up? Would be neat to get the info from it and have basically an EXACT measurement of what happened at our place...

As loosely attached as it is, I rather doubt it would be much a measurement of either wind speed or surge. What did the wording on it say?

I saw on the news before the storm where an organization was putting similar instruments around the area to measure water rise. Maybe they were expecting deep water in the area?

Can't ya'll see the holes in it!!!!!!??? It is obviously an Aggie rain gauge. The holes are so it won't overflow because of all the heavy rain in a hurricane.
