I was curious how hard of a job it is to replace the water pump. I am pretty handy and don't feel like having to haul the boat from Port Mansfield back into town. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It isn't hard, the lower unit is just heavy and getting it stabbed back correctly without mishap is the hard part.
You don't have to haul it to town from PM, just stop in at the guy across from the south side boat ramp and let him do it. He has the lifts and such to make the job easier and it won't cost much.
Just remember to remove the shift linkage bolt. It's located up next to the powerhead just under the carbs. Remove the bolts from the lower unit and it will slide right out. If it won't move you may have to smack it a couple of times with a rubber mallet. Just make sure you take your time and don't force anything.
