I had an accident before I left Rockport while fishing off that old motel pier. One of the 1"X4" boards snapped like a saltine cracker and I busted up my right shin pretty good. As I fell, I dropped my rod and my Chronarch SF right into the water. Sickening to see your R & R sink into the dark abyss. The Rod and Reel was retrieved later and I went into shower and change clothes, etc. BTW, as an auto-reflex, I leaned too far forward and kersplashed 5 feet over the side of the pier and right into the drink. People and friends cama' runnin'. They thought Shamoo the Killer Whale came in for a visit and thought he jumped into the air making that big splash! LOL! I washed the wounds real good with hot soapy water fearing getting that bacterial infection that has taken the lives of several people over recent years.

I had to go to the V.A. hospital yesterday over on Holcombe because the swelling and pain was getting bad. I told Dr. Wong, or whatever his name was, the story and said that I hope it wasn't cancer, etc. He said, "You think that cancer? That no cancer; cancer look different..." He said it like "Are you some kinda' dummy?" LOL! Anyway the antibiotics and pain relief, (400 mgs. of Ibruprofen) seem to be working and the swelling is slowly going away...so far. That was an interesting wrap-up of a 5 month stay in Rockport. Thanks to the V.A. and God Bless this country. You who live in and around Houston have a fantastic veteran's facility there on Holcombe. Have a great Memorial Day. CF?

Worn out pier

John;
Sorry to hear of the PIER accident! You are the third person I know of that has gone through that pier! (Maybe a good LAWSUIT could get it fixed???) Kevin sure is lax on getting things done around there!!

Dang, John! That sounds a lot like the kinda thing that might happen to me. I am glad to hear that you weren't mortally wounded and that your r & r were recovered. I know it wasn't fun but I suppose it could a been a lot worse.

Onward and upward!

Barney, I couldn't sue Kevin, I Feel Too Sorry For Him...

He's doing the best he can with a mail order bride from Mex. and two boys, etc. He's been doing the best he can. His over opinionated fart-knocker Dad from Maine that rules the roast from afar that tells him when and how much he can use the restroom. He's been doing the best he can. I know too many people who are too good and trusting that are being taken for granted. Did you know that some 15 or 16 biker types came in and rented 8 rooms about 3 weeks before I left and took off and stiffed him for a weeks worth of stay? I was so mad! Punk-a$$es from San Antonio. Probably some Austin highway losers. (I know you don't know the type I'm talking about), but you're right; I think there should be a standard maintenance provision placed by the city of RP on the quality maintained on fishing piers so as to prevent such accidents.

If not me, you wait, the next time it happens, it'll be somebody's gordo wife (or child) that falls through and then the litagation will start. Neither Kevin nor his Dad will be able to pay the damages. Kevin will have to move in with his inlaws in Mexico. CF?

Which place are you talking about?

CF, which place are you referring to? In Rockport? Other than being careful on the pier, how's the rooms, rates, etc? Wife wants to make a RP trip sometime this summer and I want to start looking for a safe, clean, cheap place to stay. Need to park the boat w/o getting ripped off, too! Please give me some feedback.

Reel-tor...Rockport lodging

There are lots of places to stay in RP, but you need to make arrangements asap if you plans include staying over a weekend. Depending on length of stay and budget, a condo on one of the canals at Key Allegro would top my list if you're taking enough folks to need 2 or more bedrooms and want to have your boat tied up at your private slip. Call Key Allegro Real Estate, they handle most of the condo rentals. I think I paid $1000 for a 2 BR for 7 nights including Memorial weekend last year. Only drawback to most of them is there is a local ordinance against charcoal fires in grills at any facilty with common walls.

If you only need one BR, but want a kitchenette, try the Pelican Bay Resort. They have a nice, new pier, but no boat slips. You have to park your trailer in a small area near the entrance. $149+ per night, but very nice.

There are plenty of others that I don't have a lot of experience with. I did stay at the Kon-Tiki for a couple of nights a few years ago. Sure were a lot of cockroaches, but at least they were really big and the rooms weren't too expensive.
