Posted on the other thread, but feel that this deserved my own thread:
After quitting for a couple days I got back into it harder than ever.
I guess I didn't believe the stories, and wouldn't know what was gonna hit me until it did.
Anyways I went fishing 2 days before Christmas, and started feeling badly that night on the water, had the chills on the boat and all.
Christmas rolls around I'm not feeling 100, but feeling OK enough to do Christmas w the family.
Next day I am having problems breathing and have a large fever (100.4).
Around 3pm I go to primary care, now have a 104 temp, receive a breathing treatment, steroid shot and meds and go home.
Around 8 pm I am in the ER because I am having breathing problems and a high fever.
After a chest x ray the Dr immediately tells me my lungs are failing and I need to be medically induced into coma. They said my lungs looked like they are full of glass shards. I was intubated and the ventilator was breathing for me completely and on 100% supplemental oxygen.
This is my first experience in a hospital, so that was pretty nerve wrecking, but the Dr told me the coma was necessary to help, otherwise I would not make it.
So I just got out of the hospital this past Friday.
I was in a medically induced coma for 8 days, and didn't leave the hospital for 15 to 16 days total.
For 6 days I was in a roto bed, basically a rotisserie bed, it rotates every 16 hours or whatever time period to allow your lungs to heal and operate independently of each other without any stress on em.
Not where I intended on spending my new year, or any part of the year.
After the coma I started progressing at a good pace and getting better at a fast rate thankfully, a few days after the coma I was already breathing on my own, with a breathing matching at night. By the last 3 days I was out of the ICU finally and downgraded to the IMU, and just doing breathing treatments (tasted like rotten eggs).
I now have a hole in my throat from the trachiotomy they had to administer to get me off the sedation calmly as I was freaking out with the breathing tube down my throat.
All I know is this was a scary experience for my family, friends, and myself.
I will never put my life in jeopardy over something so stupid again, and for those who don't believe the stories, don't be like me, it could happen to you.
I am 34 years old, have a baby on the way, and almost lost my life to the juul and vaping.
They told me if I waited one more day, I would not have made it just because my progress was getting much worse for the first few days.
My final diagnosis was vaping related lung disease, acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, and sepsis.
Just wanted to share my story to those of you here on 2cool, and hope I make a difference for at least one person.
I added a couple pics, one is me still sedated before being taken out of coma, the other is the Rotax bed.
If you have teens that are vaping, or know of any I can tell them my story.
If I wasn't semi healthy and fully developed I would've died over this bs. I don't have any underlying medical issues, and have only been vaping for a year or so.
