Has anyone used trigger fish for bait like dropping them deep for snappers? I was thinking I might try it but never heard of anyone doing it so I thought I might save some time if I asked here first.

Occasionally a warsaw will eat a live trigger, and dolphin will eat the baby triggers around weedlines. You can use cut trigger fish for snaps and it works ok (but not as good as bonito)

I dont know for what it's worth, but a couple of times I have caught nice ling on trigger fish that I had hooked.

i have caught big ling too off trigger on the bottom mostly in winter, cut head off, tail, and all the fins around the body and throw the rest down with a hook in it ofcourse! big snapper will hit it too, but its not my bait of choice! one ling i got on it was 72 lbs!

Would squid be better for snapper? thats what my buddy uses.

whole squid i like, espesilly if you have no current and you can drift down without a weight or a very small one, and if the triggers will not eat it up, otherwise i like to use what they call tinker mackeral, whole r cut, i use to get them at gyb, or smittys, whole poagies r good also,you can get them by about a 25 lb box!
