Using Hitch Hauler as a Rod Holder?

Hey.

Has anyone ever mounted any rod holders to a Hith Hauler before? I was thinking of welding some aluminum pipes to the sides of the hauler for easier transport of rods but wanted to know if anyone else has done this?

Any suggestions?

You can do it if you buy one that is made out of aluminim . That one is steel. You would be better off using PVC and ss hose clamps

Better use reel covers if you do, your reels will catch alot of grit back there.

if you want your rods and reels sand blasted. Better off building something for the front.

I've seen guys build them for the hitch receivers. I don't like them because if you do perhaps get something flying in the air down the freeway like a bag or something else it's likely to snap a rod in a heartbeat. Reel covers are highly advised unless you want them sandblasted like saltydog said. How large is the bed in your truck? If you've got a 8' bed just mount a regular style wall-type rod holder on the bed.

I put a two on my hauler. I bolted a couple of 1 1/2" galvanized steel flanges to the hauler and screwed in 1 1/2" male PVC couplings, then doped on two pieces of 14" long 1 1/2"PVC pipe.
I dont use them for transport. I use them as rod holders when im surf fishing.
Its two less holes I have to dig for the other rod holders and alot easier to move as the tide changes.

I have an Expedition so no bed of truck..


Basically I am only using it on SPI from the Condo to Surf and Jettie spots..

if you're transporting them for a real short distance don't worry about it. Long distance you can easily put the rods on top of the vehicle.
