Transducers...what do you use, what do you recommend?

Without going to a full 3kw, or even a 2kw, what would you recommend for a pair of 1kw transducers?

I have a simrad setup, with S5100 sonar box (chirp).

My boat has an older M260 installed, but unfortunately it's for a raymarine and cannot be adapted to my Simrad due to impedence (at least that's what I've read). The M260 is in a yellow plastic in-hull mount. I'm considering removing the M260, and replacing it with a M265LH or LM. This will cover two frequencies. However, I'm not sure if the new M265 element can fit into the older M260 tank - the old one has a stainless top, the new one has a plastic top. I've been told the element can be unbolted from the new top and installed in the old one, but I can't verify this.

I'd then install a B175HW, or a B175M to cover the 3rd zone.

Most of my fishing will be snapper, tile/deep drop, sword, and tuna at the floaters. Not a lot of trolling, but would like to build on that skill because I haven't done much of it in the past. Snapper are easy to find, so I don't need insane High Frequency hard-bottom locating sonar like they use shallow in Florida to find grouper hiding in ledges. We don't have the numbers of shallow water grouper here like they do, and if we did, we'd never get to them through the snapper...so I'm not really concerned with a High Frequency showing me ledges in <300' of water. I feel like the High-Wide would work well enough for our bottom fishery, and the Wide would allow more column clarity when underway and/or trolling. This would lead me to the B175HW, and leave the M265LM for the low and medium.

The L and the M would be used primarily for >800'.

Previous boat had a B175M, and it got the job done everywhere, but wasn't great in 1000' or more. I'd like a little more reach, without giving up too much inshore.

Thoughts?
What works for you in similar fishing situations?

My boat came with an in hull airmar B175M transducer. As you said it doesn't do good in greater than 800'. I added a garmin GT51M-TM on the transom and it is much better. Been out in about 1,300' and it was mapping bottom pretty good still. Produces much more clarity than the airmar as well. Works well while running up to 35mph too. Not sure how compatible it will be with your simrad as I'm running Garmin plotters but I've been happy with the GT51M-tM.

Get a HW + LM. The HW is often viewed as "better" in shallower water applications where you are focused on the top 200-300' and want more coverage area. I would call airmar to ask them about fitting new transducers in older housings. They have been very helpful in the past.

We also run a simrad suite on our sled with the s5100. We have the b175hw and it’s a great all around ducer from bottom fishing in a couple hundred feet or less to trolling and tuna fishing. I’ve stretched its legs down to 1400’ before, it painted the bottom far better than I thought but obviously little to no detail. Set the depth to 2-300’ while tuna fishing and it performs extremely well, we’ve been very pleased with that ducer. I’d also suggest the LM on which other option you choose, we went with the r111LM and the big ducers are a game changer when going deep(er). They make seeing what you’re after so much easier, if you’re going to spending any sort of time deep dropping or swordfishing, you might as well do it right once and be done, my $.02. You already have the black box, just need the ducer now.
