I have a Ford F-150 super crew with a 4.6 ltr. engine and automatic transmission. I am considering getting a 28-30 horse tractor to do some mowing work to supplement my income. Is it just nuts to think I can use this truck to pull that tractor to and from jobs out to about 25 miles? I used to pull a 21' bay boat all the time with that truck and it never missed a beat. Thanks, Gary

My father used to tow a 28' travel trailer with his. He added a leaf spring to the pack in the rear springs and had the sway bar kit and brakes on it. Did ok except he always wish it had more power...he has a f250 diesel now and a bigger travel trailer. For a trailer and a tractor, load proportion is everything. I would say if everything else is correct keep the tractor and trailer weight to 6,000 lbs., check the towing capacity of the truck and the reciever and you may find it has a 5,000 lbs. max. but if you utilize the equipment my father did you can increase that capacity.

What type trailer do you have and does it have brakes? If no tailer brakes the F150 will have a tough time stopping. I think the tongue weight will be too much also. I have an old Ford 600 with shredder and when on my 16 ft trailer there's so much tongue weight my Dodge 3500 has a pretty good squat to it. I for sure wouldn't use the F150 for a long pull.

I pull a gasoline model ford 2000 ( 30 hp) and shredder with an f250 diesel. It will squat pretty good if you put too much tongue weight on it. ( bumper pull trailer with brakes) I think your f150 might be a little light to do the job. Tranny cooler is a must also.
