I was late to the beach, ny wife had an emergency involving a lost debit card and no cash on hand. Arrived fairly frustrated around 8 and figured I'd better get wet or it would be too dark to see. Didn't want to spend my time driving all over the island, so I just stopped in between the 61st street pier and the long galveston pier, about midway between. Water looked great, green and slightly sandy, 1' to 2' visibility, some light breakers over the bars, bait everywhere, a few people fishing, saw a real nice cut between the first and second guts, so in I went.
Threw a chartruese/bone skitterwalk for a while, had a bump but no takers, tossed a chartreuse/gold Catch 2000, nothin', then tossed a pumpkinseed/chartreuse shrimptail, had a few hits and no hookups, got dark, so I left around 9:30.
Lots of bait in the surf, saw both finger mullet and shad, and the rafts of huge mullet, saw a few larger fish swim by and spook. Lots of seaweed but not as bad as it was two weeks ago, I only snagged a clump five or six times, but it was wrampping around my legs from time to time, I hate that.
It was nice to be in the water even with no fish.
