I should never complain about an electric bill again. We lost power Friday night at 11:33pm in Richmond off 2218 and Powerline Rd area. Luckly Thursday night my buddy Bubba's boss has 4 new 12k Generator/Welder machines and we went to Sealy to pick one up for me. Thanks RA. We fired up the generator all Friday night and Sat morning. We got lucky with minimal damage. Saturday evening I was on the way to pick up my buddies travel trailer in Katy when my buddy called and we got power back on around 5pm Sat. Guess its good to live next to Powerline Rd. We were told days to weeks for the power. But to get it back on the day of the Hurricane is OUTSTANDING! Thanks Reliant!

Saltshaker, where were you for 2005 storms? I had a place in Hackberry, we were on generators for until well into duck season for Rita ( Sept 23 was when it hit). At least this time we only got high water, the winds didn't destroy everything.

As far as them shutting down the plants, they don't. I worked for HL&P/Reliant for about 20 years, thru Alicia etc, AT a plant. We worked our tails off before the storm to be ready, and did all we could to keep em running thru the storm. The hardest problem for the electrical system, is where to send all the electricity, when lines are going out, no homes or businesses need power, but you NEED to keep plants running for essential services ( like water sewer plants and hospitals), and pumps for the highway system ( that is why interchanges flood, they pump water out of low places).

When a line does go out, they can't just turn it back on. They have to clear the short or fault that caused it to go out first, or repair a down line. Only then can it go back on. That is why the crews are seemingly riding around, they are looking for the fault to fix it before energizing the line again. Hope this helps, PM me if you are interested in more info,

Marsh, I lived in Washington Parish when Katrina hit. We had no water but we lost 90% of the timber stand.

Wolf, I believe that line down in front of NTB is not making it easy to put the power back on by you. Not sure why we were so luck here across from shadowcreek, could be we are so close to a few chemical plants on 521...our power was back on last night.

Reliant has nothing to do with restoring your power, they only SELL it to you! Your "Thank You" should be sent to Center Point, that's the guys out there climbing the poles and fixin the damage but I'm sure Reliant will take the credit for it.
I don't care who it was. Thanks to the line men that fixed it. Power isn't bad for the adults but the kids are what its hard on, specially my 16 month old.

We got lucky not to have any damage, but we've been without power since about 330am on Saturday morning. Thank God for a generator and a window unit! I just spoke to a Center Point employee while they were riding through the neighborhood...they've found our problem and are working to restore power! Everyone else in the neighborhood had it back pretty quick except our cul-de-sac and the houses behind ours. I consider us to be very lucky.

Hat's off to the line guys!

Texas New Mexico owns most of the lines around League City. We went down about 11:30 on Friday evening, and are still down.

To make matters worse, my new generator runs like a champ, but produces no electrical output! Spent all weekend on the phone with briggs & stratton, troubleshooting the POS. Finally I was told to return the generator. So much for all my food!

At least we came through safely, and have plenty of propane, food and water.
