I'm heading to South Padre with the family next week and I'm looking for fishing advice. We'll probably take a short party boat trip to let my young boys catch some fish. Does anyone have any suggestions after that? Should I drag my boat? The wife and I are most interested in offshore, but I'd love to fish the bay from a kayak or sit on the beach with the kids waiting for a clicker to go off.

Thanks in advance.

From a kayak try Mexiquita Flats or the Holly Beach area. You can fish off the Jetties with the Kiddos and I believe that is where the party boats take you. Into the Jetty Channel that is. If you are on the rocks themselves try both sides.

Man - it is an 80 mile trip in a car from the N side of the jetty to the Boca Chica side of the jetty. edit (Nevermind - I understand both sides now)

You might try bank fishing at the turning basin in Port Isabel. You can easily cast into 40' water from teh N side of the basin. No telling what you might catch. I have been spooled & broken off several times there by something BIG.

You can also try the coast guard station area

The coast guard station is a great place because the kids can swim around and you can wade in deep enough to catch some nice trouts and reds. Live shrimp with a poppin cork will do wonders there. Some nice flounders have been coming in too. Good luck and have fun. Most of all, be safe.
